A Few Old Things Antiques and Collectibles

Owners -- Rosie and Javier Cardenas have been involved in the antique business for their entire married life.  Beginning in Laredo, Texas during the 1960's Javier worked for Sears selling sewing machines. Many times these customers would ask Javier to take their old machines away for them. On his days off, Javier would work to clean and  restore these old machines, then he would sell them.  During his time in Laredo, many of his customers would ask Javier if he would also be interested in the old pieces of furniture and other collectibles they no longer wanted. Of course he did, thus began a life-long love for old things for both Rosie and Javier.

Their passion for acquiring, restoring and selling antiques continued when they moved to Yuma, Arizona. Javier would purchase old furniture and other collectible items. He would take them home to clean, repair and restore. Once done, they would sell these items from their home for a small profit.

In 1994 Rosie and Javier rented space and began selling their antiques at “Placitas Santa Fe” (a restaurant/antique store) in El Paso, Texas. They expanded in 1996 joining an antique co-op “Hidden Garden” which was located inside the Sunland Park Mall. Later when the co-op was dissolved, Rosie and Javier purchased the “Hidden Garden” shop.

Once they moved to Albuquerque in 2003. Rosie went to work at “ANU Antiques” in 2004, while Javier maintained a space of antiques and collectibles in the shop. It was in 2006 that Javier decided to follow his longtime dream -- opening his own shop “A Few Old Things Antiques and Collectibles” on March 15, 2006.

Their unique antique shop is housed inside an old, rustic adobe building which was built in 1914. The shop is located at 8833 4th Street NW on the corner of 4th and Ortega in village of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, NM.
